For those who are struggling today with anxiety about the future

April 6, 2024

It is almost 65 years since I was born.

It’s been only 65 years...

When I was born, there was no TV in my house.

Then I went through a time when it became such a part of my life that I felt uneasy without a TV...After all, I threw away the TV itself and don't watch it anymore now.

Something else has appeared to take its place.

The Internet.

There were many cases like this, where something that was there disappeared, while something that was not there appeared. Each time a company disappeared and another company appeared instead.

Looking back, the life of the pager was short.

It was convenient, but then something more convenient came along: cell phones.

The cell phone has been replaced by a small personal computer called a smart phone.

I thought personal computers were absolutely necessary and would never go away. But the number of people who use only tablets seems to be increasing because they are easier to use than PCs.

All of these things have happened over the past dozen years or so.

The Internet has become widespread and information is flying around.

The world is changing rapidly as the conventional wisdom perceived by asking ourselves "What? Oh, really?'' is breaking up.

The change is accelerating.

What I think in this accelerated change is that some chain of events will make the impossible possible even if it’s not now. Even if we can't think of it now....

Even if what is there is gone, what was not there will be there.

I have repeatedly seen that the present exists through the repetition of this process.

Thanks to something wonderful that someone has made, someone else will make something wonderful and useful again. And with it, something that was thought to be impossible becomes possible.

In this way, we go far beyond what we can do on our own.

Therefore, there is no point in thinking about the future now.

Many of my clients are anxious about the future: age, money, partnerships, and parents.

It seemed as if all kinds of things were weighing on them with anxiety about the future and holding them back in the present.

The future can't be changed by worrying about it now. The same is true of money.

I have wondered at times if money, not as energy, but as paper money, coins, and printed numbers, is made a source of anxiety by someone else.

You feel insecure when you see money as something you cannot generate.

You can see money as energy if you look at it as something you can generate.

I used to think of things in the context of an education that has made me anxious, that I can't do anything, that if I do something I will fail, that it is safer to do what I am told to do.

I was always told to give answers in a limited world.

I was often asked, "What are you going to do?'' based on the present. And then I was stuck with a question of "What should I do?”

It took decades of struggle and defiance to get an answer to the question. That is, enjoy what you can do now.

If you are suffering now, something is just different.

If something is different, look at what is "different from your true heart," and correct it.

Now you're in the middle of a suspension bridge and suddenly get scared stiff on your feet, wondering what to do... This is indeed a pinch.

You have to do something, and I understand that you are cringing.

But that's not right to lose a good night's sleep simply because you are worried about crossing the bridge tomorrow. If you don't want to cross, you don't have to. You can take on the challenge of crossing with someone else.

If you are with someone who is equally scared, you might cross the bridge, saying to each other "It's scary, isn't it?" Or you might get support from another person who tells you "It's all right."

More often than not, being with someone else creates something different than when you are on your own.

Once you cross it, it might be a little more okay the second time, and you might be able to support someone who is scared.

There is no such thing as being stuck where you are now. We are all making a little progress.

There is no use in feeling anxious about the future.

If we do what we can now, the world will change and push us forward.

Live in the present.

Don't give up on something interesting that you just thought of as unrealistic. You came up with the idea because you have the potential to do it.

Stop asking "How?" and enjoy the present moment, hoping, "I wish I could be like this.

That's the way to keep anxiety about the future away. And that's what I do.
